Elisabeth Kristensen

Elisabeth Kristensen from Kristiansand is an experienced snow sculptor and takes part for the sixth time in Snøskulptur Hovden. As a land art artist, Kristensen has made a mark with her snow and sand sculptures. She is currently the project manager for Sand Sculpture Kristiansand.

I choose the northern lights, aurora borealis, as basis for my project. It is an ethereal and mystical phenomena of nature. As I see it, the northern lights share many of the same characteristics as the snow and each individual snowflake. The snowflake and the northern lights are both light, airy, and an eternal attractive force. Snow as a material is just as organic and temporary as the bodies that work to shape it. I therefore find it natural to work with organic shapes when I work with snow. I find thatthe ephemeral qualities of the snow and the northern lights reflect the temporariness of our own lives and the world that we live in.
